Whitewood to Texas

We had planned to travel West to attend the Sunday radio broadcast of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir until winter storm Jaxon created hazardous driving conditions along I-80.  For that reason, we first changed our destination to Arizona traveling to Lamar, CO there with the camper on January 19, 2018.  At Lamar we decided to do the entire trip in reverse and  go first to Texas.  On January 20 we traveled to Palo Duro State Park (SP) south of Amarillo, TX.  Palo Duro is called "The Grand Canyon of Texas" and is very similar to the Grand Canyon but on a smaller scale.  The park features great hiking trails, lots of birds, and has no phone or Internet service.  Our next stop was to first my cousin Dorothy in Snyder, TX and afterwards on to Lake Colorado City SP for two days, then on to Balmorhea where we found Balmorhea SP closed for renovations, so we stayed at Balmorhea Lake on a rustic site, but with water and electricity.

We always put out bird feeders and also put food on the ground. The Northern Cardinal visited us at Lake Colorado City.

Our view at the Balmorhea Lake RV spot.  The lake is feed by Balmorhea Springs which put out over 20 million gallons per day.
